GEORGE TOWN (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A toddler in Malaysia was seriously injured when she fell from an escalator at a shopping complex in Penang.

The incident occurred at 6.42pm on Sunday (Oct 16) when the family was shopping at the mall.

From closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, it appeared that the girl was sitting on her father's shoulders as the family got onto the escalator.

Less than a minute later, the toddler was seen falling to the ground floor.

It is learnt that the child is in critical condition and receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Penang Hospital.
