PETALING JAYA (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Malaysia's former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was discharged from the National Heart Institute (IJN) at 4.30pm on Monday (Aug 15).

"He will continue with physiotherapy and exercises at home," the IJN said in a press release.

Dr Mahathir was admitted on Aug 9 for treatment of a chest infection.

The 91-year-old, who was prime minister for 22 years until he retired in 2003, has undergone several heart operations.

The past few months have been busy for him as he was involved in the formation of the new Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia together with former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
