MANILA - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is celebrating the birth of his grandson nicknamed Stonefish.

The 71-year-old leader could not hide his happiness when he heard the news on Thursday (March 2) while he was in Cebu.

"I am very excited to go home. I'd be flying home directly. I'd go straight to the hospital," the Inquirer quoted Duterte as saying in a speech to businessmen in Cebu.

The baby is the third child of Duterte's daughter Sara, who is mayor of Duterte's home city Davao, and her husband Mans Carpio.

Sara Duterte was pregnant with triplets but lost two babies through miscarriage in September last year. The baby boy was delivered through caesarian section.

Presidential Assistant Bong Go posted pictures on Facebook showing Duterte posing with his new grandchild at the Davao Doctors Hospital.

The baby's full name is Marko Digong D. Carpio. Digong is the nickname of the president.

Davao City Information Officer Jef Tupas believed the mayor named her child Digong as "proof of love" for her father, the Inquirer reported.

And it seems like the mayor loves to name her children after fish, ABS-CBN News said. Her two other children are Mikhaila Maria or Sharky, 8, and Mateo Lucas or Stingray, 4.
