KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has welcomed former Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib back to the fold and said that he is expecting great things from the ex-Selangor mentri besar.

"I am pleased to announce that Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib has returned to Umno. He is aware that the Opposition struggle namely PKR is in vain," tweeted Mr Najib on Sunday (Sept 17), moments after the press conference announcing Muhammad Taib's return to Umno.

"I am sure he will contribute to the success of Umno and Barisan Nasional," he continued.

The former Umno vice-president joined PAS in 2013, and later left PAS to join PKR in 2015.

At the press conference, Mr Muhammad said that the Malay agenda was not prioritised by the Opposition and felt that there was no other option but to rejoin Umno.
