KLANG • A four-year-old girl wailed when her right leg got stuck between the gaps of a metal drain cover on a street in Klang town in Selangor, and her parents could not get her out.

The girl's leg slipped into the gap as she was walking with her parents to their car after breakfast at 8am on Monday.

When six firemen from the Kota Raja Fire and Rescue Department turned up with their equipment, she cried louder as she feared they would cut her leg to get her out.

The firemen took turns to comfort her and divert her attention as they attempted to free her leg, said the department's operation chief Mohd Shafiee Rawop.

The firemen used a hydraulic spreader to widen the gap of the drain cover to free her leg. Mr Mohd Shafiee said the firemen covered the girl's leg with a piece of cloth before carefully operating the hydraulic spreader so that she would not see how it was done.

She was freed after 15 minutes, much to the relief of her parents. She sustained some light injuries and her parents took her to a clinic, said Mr Mohd Shafiee.
