MUAR (THE STAR/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - An elderly driver who made a sudden U-turn ended up with 20 stitches on his lip on Sunday (Nov 27) after he was allegedly punched by another motorist who rammed his car from behind.

Mr Khoo Boon Khang, 75, apparently made the U-turn along Jalan Abdul Rahman. Another driver couldn't stop in time and rammed into his Perodua Viva.

His friend, who declined to be named, said he was passing by the area when he saw Mr Khoo, whose white T-shirt was covered in blood, talking to the other driver at about 9am.

"I was shocked to see the bloodstains on his shirt and immediately approached him. I initially thought that he had been injured during a car accident," he said.

He added that Mr Khoo was bleeding profusely, and he then took the victim to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital where he received 20 stitches on his upper lip.

The friend said Mr Khoo was heading towards a workshop to send his car for repairs.

"However, the workshop was closed and he decided to make a U-turn to return home," he said, adding that he believed this had resulted in the accident.

He claimed that despite Mr Khoo apologising, the other driver, who is believed to be in his 40s, punched him in the face.

The friend claimed that the attacker later apologised to Mr Khoo and his family. Mr Khoo lodged a police report and has declined to comment on the incident.

When contacted, Muar OCPD Asst Comm Azman Ayob said the case would be investigated under voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.

"The police have detained a male suspect in his 40s to assist with the investigation," he said.
