Coronavirus: Oil and gas, electronics given leeway as Malaysia's economy shuts down over outbreak

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia has granted exemptions from the two-week shutdown beginning on Wednesday (March 18) aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus to key industries deemed part of the supply chain for essential goods and services, The Straits Times has learnt.

While food, household and medical items are among items considered essential, electronics firms have also been given the go-ahead, provided precautions are taken to minimise risk of infection.
