KLANG (The Star/Asia News Network) - The main suspect in a robbery and rape case was captured less than a day after he escaped half-naked from police custody.

The 27-year-old Indonesian, who had three ball bearings implanted in his private parts, was originally due to be charged in court on Tuesday (June 20).

However, he escaped from the North Klang district police headquarters by using his trousers to widen the gap of the window grille of a toilet at the Criminal Investigation Department, at about 3pm on Monday.

The suspect then took off his lock-up shirt after he got wet crossing a stream during his escape.

"He ended up running naked until he arrived at some squatters in Sungai Kapar Indah and changed into a new set of clothes," said North Klang OCPD Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yusoff Mamat.

The man also managed to cut off one side of his handcuffs, ACP Yusoff said when contacted on Tuesday.

He added that the suspect then trekked around a palm oil estate in Kapar until nightfall, before hailing a motorcyclist in Kapar town and asked to be taken to Kampung Baru Hicom in Shah Alam, where he lives.

ACP Yusoff said police managed to locate the suspect when he arrived at Kampung Baru Hicom at about 1am.

He added that the suspect had broken into several houses to steal money, and also attempted to rape a girl in the village during his short-lived escape.

He was arrested at 7am on Tuesday.

The suspect was first arrested on June 13 for allegedly raping a 34-year-old woman after robbing her house in Kampung Rantau Panjang in Klang.
