Thai man gets further jail time for graffiti

BANGKOK • An elderly Thai man already jailed for royal defamation was yesterday sentenced to a further 18 months in prison under controversial lese majeste laws for graffiti scrawled in a Bangkok toilet last year.

Ophas Chansuksei, a 68-year-old badge vendor, is currently serving an 18-month sentence for graffiti deemed critical of the monarchy and junta.

State utility's offer for 1MDB power unit

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysia's state electricity utility Tenaga Nasional said yesterday it has made a conditional offer to buy the power unit of debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

1MDB is seeking to pare back RM42 billion (S$14 billion) in debt, including by selling power unit Edra Global Energy.
