Maliki attends Indian Ocean group's meeting

Senior Minister of State for Defence and Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman attended the Indian Ocean Rim Association 15th Council of Ministers Meeting in Padang, Indonesia, yesterday.

The meeting reviewed the progress made since last year's meeting, and discussed ways to enhance regional cooperation in the Indian Ocean rim.

The meeting also discussed cooperation under the theme "Strengthening Maritime Cooperation in a Peaceful and Stable Indian Ocean", as proposed by Indonesia, the current IORA chair, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.


Sentencing of Uber rapist driver delayed

NEW DELHI • A Delhi court yesterday postponed to Nov 3 the sentencing of an Uber driver convicted of raping a young female passenger in the Indian capital last year.

Shiv Kumar Yadav's lawyer said the hearing had been delayed because of a shortage of police in Delhi, where a major summit of African leaders is being held.

Thailand beefs up security of websites

BANGKOK • Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday instructed the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to tighten security of the government's computer system and websites to fend off hacking attacks.

On Thursday, Anonymous, an international group of activists and hackers promoting Internet freedom, announced it was targeting the Thai government.
