5.9-magnitude quake hits off Indonesia's Sumatra

JAKARTA - A magnitude-5.9 earthquake stuck off the west coast of Sumatra Island in Indonesia on Sunday (April 10), reported the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG).

The quake at 9.14 local time, and its epicentre was 61km south-west of the city of Bengkulu in the similarly named province.

It had a depth of 55.3km, according to the United States Geological Survey.

No casualties or damage have been reported, according to Xinhua News Agency, and BMKG said there was no tsunami threat.
