Guizhou, one of China's poorest backwater provinces, yesterday announced the official opening of its 411.1 billion yuan (S$90 billion) network of highways and roads that link up 88 counties in its bid to boost trade and lift its people out of poverty.
The ambitious 5,128km network, for which construction work began in 2008, is the first of its kind in western China and one of just a few in the country, the People's Daily reported.
