BEIJING (AP) - Police in Beijing say they have arrested 13 people for allegedly spreading rumours and disrupting public order following a protest over a migrant worker's death.
The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau says the woman surnamed Yuan committed suicide when she fell to her death from a clothing market building in the capital on May 3.
The 22-year-old's death sparked a rare protest by hundreds of migrant workers who believed she may have been slain and said police bungled the investigation.
The Tuesday statement says a police investigation had ruled out that Ms Yuan was assaulted or murdered. Yet it said her death spawned online rumours that she had been raped and murdered by the building's security guards.
Police say one of the people arrested was Ms Yuan's boyfriend.
