KUALA LUMPUR • The wife of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak will sue anyone who makes baseless attacks against her.

The legal team of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the firm Noor Hajran Mohd Noor, said she had been the target of baseless and malicious allegations. It will scrutinise social media postings and publications that might attack her.

"These attacks are false allegations made without any proof or basis, done with malice with the sole intent of putting her in disrepute, casting aspersions of alleged wrongdoings causing harm and injury to her reputation.

"We are closely monitoring all postings appearing in any social media platforms and other forms of publications in relation to false and malicious attacks on me," said the statement issued last Saturday.

The statement followed the third civil lawsuit by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), filed last week, detailing alleged misappropriations linked to state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The filings cited an alleged gift of a US$27.3 million (S$38 million) rare pink diamond necklace to Ms Rosmah by businessman Low Taek Jho, who has said he was an unofficial adviser to 1MDB in its early days.

The DOJ is making legal moves to seize assets from Mr Low and others. It said some US$4.5 billion was stolen from 1MDB.

The Malaysian government has said that its own investigations have found no wrongdoing and that police are probing the matter.

In its statement, Ms Rosmah's legal team cautioned the public against making false and malicious postings and statements that could cause public confusion and misrepresentation of facts.

"More specifically, publications and postings with unverified sources and baseless contents framed and intended as indirect hate and gutter political attacks," it said, adding that any further posts of such nature would face legal action.
