BEIJING (AFP) - A loud explosion was heard Saturday at Terminal 3 of Beijing International Airport, state media reported.
The official Xinhua news agency cited witnesses as saying the explosion came at about 6:24 pm.
The explosion at the arrival hall of Beijing’s Capital International Airport shocked travellers and injured one person, according to messages and photos posted by several different witnesses on China's popular social media platform Weibo. Local media reported that the victim has been rushed to hospital, but his condition remains unknown.
China’s state broadcaster CCTV said the man injured in the blast was 34-year-old Ji Zhongxing from Heze in Shandong Province. He set off a home-made explosive device packed with gunpowder from fireworks, but there were no other casualties.
CCTV did not elaborate on his condition, or on a possible motive for what appears to be a suicide bomb.
