School children, wearing padded hoods to protect them from falling debris, sit in a gymnasium during an earthquake simulation exercise at an elementary school in Tokyo yesterday.
The annual exercise is held nationwide, on the anniversary of the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, to practise the response to major natural disasters.
