The "most beautiful water highway" across Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake, in Jiangxi province lies flooded following continuous rain.

Hundreds of thousands of people across China have been affected by heavy rains and flooding, and more bad weather is expected with experts warning that this year's El Nino effect would bring unusually heavy rainfall.

Torrential rain has also wreaked havoc in parts of Europe, the US state of Texas and the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
