Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong met Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a dinner for the 21st International Conference on "The Future of Asia" in Tokyo, where they exchanged views on regional developments.

In his conference dinner speech, Mr Abe paid tribute to the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who was one of the founding members of the Conference, and ESM Goh expressed appreciation for PM Abe's tribute.

Mr Goh also met Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Taro Aso during his visit to Tokyo, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) statement.

Both leaders exchanged views on wide ranging issues and expressed satisfaction on the signing of the Third Bilateral Swap Agreement between Singapore and Japan.

The agreement will contribute to the stability of both countries' financial markets and help support growing bilateral economic and trade ties.

The MFA said Mr Goh also held separate meetings with Liberal Democratic Party Secretary-General Sadakazu Tanigaki, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi and members of the Japan-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship League.

Mr Goh concludes his visit and returns to Singapore on May 22, 2015.
