US doubts N.Korea's hydrogen bomb claim

WASHINGTON • The White House has poured cold water on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's suggestion that his country has developed a hydrogen bomb.

Spokesman Josh Earnest on Thursday cited concerns over the regime's actions, but said available information "calls into serious question" the claim.

LG exec cleared of Samsung sabotage

SEOUL • A South Korean court has acquitted a senior LG Electronics executive of charges of sabotaging washing machines of rival Samsung at a trade fair in Germany last year.

The Seoul Central District Court yesterday dismissed the case against Mr Jo Seong Jin, president of LG's home appliance division, citing a lack of compelling evidence.

Student executed for poisoning roommate

SHANGHAI • A medical student at a Shanghai university who poisoned his roommate has been executed, Xinhua news agency reported.

Lin Sinhao was convicted of murdering a fellow student "out of spite" by spiking a water dispenser with a toxic chemical in April 2013. He was put to death yesterday.
