ESM Goh in China for economic forum

Singapore's Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is attending the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) annual conference in China's Hainan province that began yesterday and ends on Friday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement yesterday.

Mr Goh, who is a member of the BFA board of directors, will attend board meetings and participate in a panel session as well as a joint call on Chinese Premier Li Keqiang by the BFA board of directors. He will be accompanied by MP and chief executive officer of Business China Sun Xueling and MFA officials.


Sarawak has scrapped dam project: Activists

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysian tribal activists who have fought for years against a planned hydroelectric dam in Sarawak's Baram River declared victory yesterday, saying the state government has scrapped the project that would have flooded rainforests and displaced 20,000 tribespeople.

UN lifts bans on 4 ships at China's request

SEOUL • The United Nations Security Council has agreed to a Chinese request to remove sanctions on four ships the UN had blacklisted for ties to Pyongyang's arms trade. The deal came after China secured assurances that the vessels would not use North Korean crews, a United States official said.
