Dongguan-based Didi driver Zhang Yuhua had expected to go home to his village in Jingzhou in southern Hubei province for only a week.

But just three days into his Chinese New Year break, the local authorities suddenly announced a lockdown, a day after Wuhan was sealed on Jan 23 as the new coronavirus seized the city.
