BEIJING (AP) - A fireworks company says China has ordered retailers to stop selling fireworks labeled "Tokyo Big Bang" because it could damage relations with Japan.
A manager at the Beijing Doudou Fireworks Company said on Thursday it manufactured the fireworks out of patriotism and because it thought they would sell well.
Relations between China and Japan have been tense in recent months, amid disagreements over who owns tiny islands in the East China Sea.
The manager, who only gave his surname, Yang, said: "When the products hit the market, they were really loved by customers and even sold out at some retailers. We know the ban will hurt our profits, but it doesn't matter as long as the national interests of our country haven't been affected."
