A wanted man in Australia teased the police by asking for a better mugshot after a public appeal was posted on Facebook.

On Monday (July 6), Victoria Police sought public assistance to help locate Daniel Damon, who had failed to answer bail for traffic and drug matters.

A reply on the police Facebook page bearing his name read: "Can you use a better photo thou. This is a horrible mugshot."

The police responded with a candid reply: "Hi Daniel, please visit your nearest police station and we'll arrange for a new photo to be taken!"

Damon, whose Facebook profile photo shows a shirtless muscular body, said he has plans to do so.

"Yea I plan on it once I get a few things in order..just gotta organise myself a lawyer and get everything organised."

The exchange on Facebook invited several comments with some commenting on his sense of humour and giving him advice.

One post read: "Yes think you may need that sense of humour where your going Danny boy."

Another read: "You do realise ALL of this can be used in court to discredit any defence you try lol."

In its appeal, the police said 25-year-old Damon is 180 centimetres tall, of medium-built, has brown hair and eyes and a fair complexion. He also has numerous body tattoos.

Damon frequents the Bendigo and Melbourne areas and it is believed he may be living in St Kilda, the appeal said.

Australian media Herald Sun reported on Tuesday morning that a police spokesman confirmed that Damon is still at large.
