More landslides likely this month in Jakarta

JAKARTA • Only days after Greater Jakarta was hit by floods, residents have been warned to ready for a further deluge and landslides as heavy rain is forecast to continue until at least next week.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency predicted that the prolonged rainy season would last until March, with the heaviest rainfall expected this month, the Jakarta Post reported yesterday.


HIV infections in India: Bogus doctor arrested

NEW DELHI • Indian police have arrested an unlicensed doctor accused of infecting at least 46 people with HIV by reusing a syringe.

Police in Uttar Pradesh tracked down Rajendra Yadav, who provided cheap door-to-door medical services to poor villagers, after filing a criminal case against him over the spread of the infection in the northern state's Unnao district. Victims range from children as young as six to people in their 70s.

Police still probing model's fatal fall in KL

KUALA LUMPUR • Malaysian police yesterday said they were still investigating the case of a Dutch model who died in a fall from a condominium unit in Kuala Lumpur, after a Dutch news report said the model was seen being carried out of a club by a man just hours before her death on Dec 7.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim yesterday said the police - who had said at the time of the incident that Ms Ivana Esther Robert Smit, 19, could have fallen while intoxicated - were still looking into the death, The Star reported.
