Family trapped in collapsed building

MUMBAI • Rescuers were searching yesterday for a family of six feared trapped in a building that collapsed and killed two people on the outskirts of the Indian city of Mumbai, police said.

Emergency workers were using mechanical diggers and other equipment to remove slabs of concrete and mud, but police said there was little hope of finding the family including three children alive.

Ex-president Ma to teach law at university

TAIPEI • The president of Taiwan's Soochow University has said that former president Ma Ying-jeou has accepted an invitation to teach international law from as early as September, according to the Central News Agency.

Professor Pan Wei-ta also said on Saturday that Mr Ma is a law expert and had taught part-time in the university before becoming president.


Chinese firm claims optic fibre data record

WUHAN • Chinese company FiberHome has developed a type of optic fibre that can transmit 400 terabytes of data per second, breaking the world record for the amount of data that can be transmitted on optic fibres, the company claimed last week.
