Beijing switches to natural gas power

BEIJING • The last large coal-fired power plant in Beijing has suspended operations, with the city's electricity now generated by natural gas, the state news agency reported.

Iswaran in New Delhi to meet ministers

NEW DELHI • Singapore's Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) S. Iswaran is visiting New Delhi from March 19 to 20, said the ministry in a statement yesterday.

Today, Mr Iswaran will deliver a keynote address at the Growth Net Summit, an annual platform for leaders to discuss opportunities in emerging economies.

He will also meet Indian ministers, including the ministers for finance and defence, road transport and shipping and commerce and industry.


S. Korea prepares to raise sunken Sewol SEOUL • South Korea prepared yesterday to raise the Sewol ferry, which sank nearly three years ago, killing more than 300 people, most of them children.

It is testing a system to bring the ship to the surface, in the hope of finding the last nine bodies.
