10 dead in suspected jailbreak in Philippines

MANILA • Ten prisoners in the Philippines were killed when a suspected jailbreak and attempt to kidnap the warden went wrong in a Manila suburb.

The prisoners were meeting the warden of the Paranaque City jail in his office when the explosion occurred on Thursday evening, killing the inmates and wounding the warden, the authorities said.

Dental clinic claims trial over man's death

KUALA LUMPUR • A dental clinic claimed trial to nine charges related to the death of Datuk Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi and alleged failure to adhere to health and safety regulations. Mr Syed Alman, 44, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi, reportedly lost consciousness while receiving treatment in June at Imperial Dental Specialist Centre. He died soon after.
