China probes 2 ex-officers

BEIJING - China's Defence Ministry said yesterday that two more former senior officers were being investigated for corruption. Kou Tie, a former military commander, and Liu Zhanqi, a former communications commander, were being probed for "serious discipline violations".

'No' to wider military ties

SEOUL - South Korea is not ready to expand military ties with Japan even though cooperation between the two is a deterrent to North Korea, South Korea's defence minister said. The statement came after the postponement of a visit by the intelligence chief of Japan's Defence Ministry.

More millionaires in China

BEIJING - China had four million millionaire households last year, the second-highest in the world after the US, as the country's stock market boom boosted private wealth, an independent survey showed yesterday.
