WITH less than two weeks to go to the ChildAid charity concerts here, some of the young participants from overseas are gearing up for the biggest performance of their lives.
"I have been practising more than usual at the Jakarta Drum School," said 14-year-old Kevin Dwi Tjahya.
Classmate and fellow performer Ayla Noor Iman Adjie is also making his way to Singapore, as is 12-year-old vocalist Andrew Sanjay George from Malaysia.
"It's the first time I'm performing abroad," said Kevin. "I'm very excited and a little bit nervous. I just can?t wait."
Ayla, who dreams of attending music school in the United States one day, says he will practise from 9am to 5pm daily for a week when he gets to Singapore.
"This is a great chance for me because this event will increase my experience and my knowledge of music," said the 14-year-old percussionist.
Ayla started to perform in public at the tender age of five. He has since performed at many events attended by high-ranking government officials and has also collaborated with international musicians
Meanwhile, 12-year-old Victoria Audrey Sarasvathi from Jakarta hopes to give back to society in her own way. "This is my first experience with ChildAid," she said. However, she has participated in charity concerts in Indonesia, including a fund-raising concert for Jakarta Cathedral.
"I want to be a part of ChildAid so I can give a message to other people to help unfortunate children," she said. "I will also have the opportunity to perform to encourage other children to love music. Keep on practising and never give up."
ChildAid takes place at Resorts World Sentosa from Dec 19-21. Limited tickets are available for the concert on Dec 19.
