THEY will not be jamming on a guitar or demonstrating their vocal prowess on stage, but five Singapore Polytechnic students have put their artistic talent to work for the annual fund-raising concert ChildAid.

The second- and third-year Experience and Product Design students designed a memorabilia box for ChildAid's fifth anniversary.

It will be on sale at the concert to raise funds for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF) and the Business Times Budding Artists Fund.

The students - Ivan Chiok, 20, Paul Tan, 19, Yew Jing Yuan, 18, Muhammad Junaidi, 20, and Carolyn Phuar, 20 - were approached by their lecturers Winston Chai and Edwin Low for the project.

To complete the product in about a month, they worked through nights and made numerous changes to the prototype, finally emerging with a set of miniature teddy bears 'performing' on an equally small stage.

They are looking forward to having it roll off the production line to benefit children.

Ivan, whose design was chosen from more than 15 sent in by the team, said: 'I am just glad that we were given the chance to showcase our talents.'

Paul added: 'In turn, we can use this opportunity to bless someone.'

Also doing their bit for the less fortunate are children from Kinderland childcare and kindergarten centres. They sold cookies and mooncakes over the past five months to raise $10,000 for SPMF.

Ticket holders can buy the ChildAid 2009 Fifth Anniversary memorabilia box for $20 at the concerts, which will be held at the Festive Grand Theatre in Resort Worlds Sentosa from Dec 19 to 21.

Tickets are available at all Sistic outlets at $15, $20, $30 and $50.
