ANG Mo Kio Hub is making a name for itself in the Singapore Book Of Records.

Last year, it created Singapore's biggest birthday cake - measuring 5.5m long, 1.2m wide and 0.15m high - with the help of culinary school Creative Culinaire, to celebrate its first anniversary.

And, last Saturday, the mall scored another record - Singapore's largest cupcake structure - as part of its second-anniversary celebrations.

It teamed up with 25 chefs from the Baking Industry Training Centre to bake and decorate a total of 2,222 chocolate and vanilla cupcakes over 10 hours, and then assembled the desserts into a 3.2m-tall tower at the Hub's Basement One Exhibition Hall.

However, the tower of tasty treats did not last long, as shoppers snapped up the cupcakes, which were given out in exchange for a donation to the Hub's adopted charity, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

The mall intends to raise a total of $20,000 for the charity through its 11/2-month-long anniversary celebrations which started last Friday, said its centre manager, Mr Andy Kau.

As part of the celebrations, readers of my paper were invited to participate in a multiple-choice SMS contest to guess the number of cupcakes in the tower.

Regular reader and insurance broker Sherry Ng Sock Hoon, 28, was the lucky winner who took home the top prize of NTUC vouchers worth $1,000 and Lee Hwa jewellery worth $1,500, among other rewards.

When asked how she managed to guess correctly the number of cupcakes, Miss Ng said: "Since this is the second anniversary of Ang Mo Kio Hub, 2,222 seemed like the perfect number."
