$11,600 for pocket money fund
NEARLY $11,680 has been raised for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund through a charity futsal tournament.
The competition, the second in a series, was held last weekend. It was organised by health supplements and food product company Cerebos Pacific, which has adopted the School Pocket Money Fund since 2000.
The $11,680 raised surpassed the target amount of $10,000, and the $2,020 raised last year.
Cerebos matched, dollar for dollar, the amount raised from the competing teams' registration fees, donations and the money from the number of goals conceded.
Each goal let through cost the conceding team $20.
Teams from Cerebos and 14 of its business partners played 35 matches and scored 122 goals.
The OCBC team defeated defending champions Singapore Press Holdings to take the winner's trophy this year.
A type of indoor soccer, futsal is played between two teams of five on a court marked out by lines instead of walls or boards.
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund gives monthly allowances to needy primary and secondary school students to cover their school-related expenses.
