Life is hard for the divorcee, who was retrenched as a cargo assistant last October. However, she refuses to accept things as they are. She is actively looking for a job but has been selling Malay desserts to make ends meet in the interim.
She has also been resourceful in applying for aid from organisations like Mendaki and the Pasir Ris Family Service Centre so that her children can stay in school.
A social worker from the Association of Malay Professionals describes her as an inspiration.
Ms Nureliza Hamzah, 30, says: 'She is a true recession heroine. She has such strength and resilience, and she is determined to hold her family together and be a pillar of strength for her children.'
