SOME faculty members from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have donated over $10,000 towards the community event Children for Children, taking the total amount raised so far to almost $230,000.
This is significantly higher than the $205,000 raised last year. The Business Times, CHIJ (Kellock) and The Arts House are joining hands to organise Children for Children, which aims to bring together 250 CHIJ (Kellock) students with 1,000 underprivileged children for an activity-filled afternoon at the Singapore Zoo.
Su Guaning, president of NTU, led by example by pledging $1,000. Angela Lim, chief human resource officer, also backed the cause with a donation. She then sent out the call to faculty members, who quickly responded generously.
"When you yourself are committed to the fund raising, others will follow your example," said Mrs Lim.
Children for Children takes place on Sept 30, which is the day before Children's Day.
"Fund raising for children's causes is very special. They touch the hearts of people straight away," she added.
Three-quarters of the proceeds - minus the costs of organising the zoo event - will be channelled to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and the balance to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.
