REACHING THE MEDIA-SAVVY
'It's an honour, I'm happy to have received the award during my stint at Reach. Credit must go to my team - I have a good team, an all-women's team, who are young and not afraid to fail. This helped us reach a media-savvy segment of the population and made it more convenient for them to give us views.'
PUBLIC SERVICE MEDAL (BRONZE)
Ms Bey Mui Leng, 39, head of Reach, the Government's feedback unit. Under her guidance, Reach has engaged Singaporeans not just through face-to-face dialogues, but also through new media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
MEETING THE HEARTLAND CHALLENGE
'Ten years ago, Yishun Town was quite a challenging school, but in recent years it has turned around. From next year, we will be an autonomous school, which is quite an achievement for a heartland school.'
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION MEDAL (BRONZE)
Mr Tan Yee Kan, principal of Yishun Town Secondary School. One of the programmes introduced in the four years that he has been principal is to send students from Secondary 4 Normal (Technical) classes on overseas trips. This gives them the opportunity 'to see beyond Singapore'.
