Kazakhs v Thais in beach volleyball

The beach volleyball finals today will be a two-country affair between Kazakhstan and Thailand.

In yesterday's semi-finals at Siloso Beach, Kazakhstan's girls defeated Indonesia 21-18, 21-16, while their boys fought a close battle with Yemen before winning 21-13, 23-25, 15-11.

Thailand's girls booked their final berth by upsetting pre-tournament favourites China 17-21, 21-17, 15-12, and their boys ousted Indonesia 21-15, 17-21, 15-11.

Choi on target for South Korea

South Korean Choi Dae Han collected his country's second shooting gold when he won the boys' 10-metre air pistol with a score of 675.9, 3.4 points ahead of Chinese shooter Jie Zhang.

Yakov Donguzov of Kazakhstan was third with 663.6.

Both China and South Korea split the four gold medals on offer in the shooting competition.

No free pass for AYG mascot Frasia

Just because you are the face of the Asian Youth Games does not entitle you to a free pass.

Even Frasia, the AYG official mascot, cannot roam the Lion City without a proper accreditation.

He needs a new mug shot as no one takes a lion with make-up seriously.

Maximum 35 sports for Asian Games

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) will streamline the Asian Games to a maximum of 35 sports, starting with the 2014 Games in Incheon, Korea.

The number will include the Olympic Games' 28 sports and seven non-Olympic sports, the OCA decided at its General Assembly in Singapore on Friday.

The next edition of the Games in Guangzhou 2010 will feature 42 sports.

Another change: From 2019, the quadrennial Games will be held one year before the next Summer Olympics instead of two at present.
