'MM Lee was only stating a longstanding geopolitical fact about the Asia-Pacific region.''
MR DOUGLAS CHUA: 'I refer to Tuesday's report, 'MM's speech in US draws flak online in China'. Let us be mature here - political relations between the United States and China is not dictated by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew or his speech. His remarks at the US-Asean Business Council was not meant to provoke one superpower or contain the other potential superpower. MM Lee was only stating a longstanding geopolitical fact about the Asia-Pacific region: that there must be a balance of power for neutral countries to prevail. Singapore happens to be a neutral Asian nation. We support neither China against anyone nor the US against China. In a region where ethnic conflicts and territorial disputes are prevalent, it is only wise that no one superpower should dominate. Given its gigantic size and might, China is more than a handful to contain, let alone confront. For daring to make this stance known internationally, MM Lee is a worthy speaker, to say the least.'
