Missing handbag
'I am most grateful to the woman who found it and to the security officers.'
MADAM AGNES DE SOUZA: 'On Oct 25, I was in Shaw House waiting for my children to return from their shopping at the sitting area on the floor next to the Laura Ashley shop when I had to visit the washroom. I hung my handbag on the toilet door and, with my walking stick to think about, left the washroom without the bag. After about 40 minutes, I realised it was missing and was frantic. I went in search of it and asked around at the washroom. A uniformed woman named Aileen Tan came by and told me not to worry. She took me to the security office, assuring me that everything would be well. There, I was asked to describe my bag and after ascertaining it was mine, the security officer brought it out and asked me to check the contents. All was intact. I am most grateful to the woman who found it (it is a pity she did not leave her name) and turned it in to security, and to the security officers who were kind and professional.'
Tan Tock Seng Hospital
'I was very impressed - where else in the world could you get service like that?'
MR PETER BERNARD SCARROTT: 'I am a regular trekker in Nepal and went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital to inquire about vaccinations. I went to the wrong counter but was given friendly advice where to go. When I entered the traveller health and vaccination unit, almost immediately a nurse asked me what I required, then escorted me to a consultation room. She was very thorough in advising me what was required in terms of vaccinations, medication and precautions to take for my trek, and then took me to another room where a second nurse gave me a vaccination. I returned to the front desk and made a very small payment for good service. After only about 15 minutes in total, I was on my way. As an Australian expatriate, I was very impressed - where else in the world could you get service like that?'
Abusive deliveryman
'Only Mr Lim, a teacher from Millennia Institute, stood up for us.'
MADAM TAN LAY KHIM: 'Recently at VivoCity, a deliveryman insisted he had the right to park his truck in the space for handicapped, while making delivery. He continually hurled a loud torrent of Hokkien vulgarities at us when I asked him to leave. The unpleasant incident was witnessed by others in the carpark, but only Mr Lim, a teacher from Millennia Institute, calmly and selflessly stood up for us. My disabled husband and I are extremely grateful to him.'
Rescued in the rain
'I am honoured to meet such a gracious and generous individual.'
MS DENISE RACHEL YONG: 'I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to Mr Ivan Hoe, driver of vehicle No. SES 506 L, who was the only kind soul to help me on Monday. I was having a bad day because I had forgotten my umbrella and one of my sandals broke. I wanted to take a cab home immediately, so I stood along Sims Lane in Aljunied waiting for a cab. A cab did stop, but I was not going his way so I had to wait for another. I was getting drenched and feeling worse when a car pulled over and Mr Hoe offered his umbrella which he realised he did not have, and then offered to take me home instead. I am honoured to meet such a gracious and generous individual. Many thanks.'
