I AGREE with the view in Madam Noronha Beryl's letter on Tuesday, 'SkatePark now kids' playground', on Xtreme SkatePark in East Coast Park.
Many parents are ignorant about the purpose and use of the SkatePark. They endanger not only the lives of genuine extreme athletes, but also the lives of their children.
The park is for genuine athletes to practise and hone their skills and they usually skate or ride very fast. Children who have no knowledge of SkatePark 'traffic rules' will cross the path of these athletes and risk serious injury to themselves or the athletes.
In my opinion, all leisure skaters and cyclists should be banned from the SkatePark. Adult supervision is useless because parents just sit at the top of the ramps and let their children run wild. This is not adult supervision. Ban them before anything happens and people start pointing fingers.
There is enough space in the whole stretch of East Coast Park for children to play.
