A GOOD GOVERNMENT MEANS
Jobs, homes, security and health care are what S'poreans want
I AGREE unreservedly with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's remark captured in a subsidiary headline, 'It's people that matter' in last Saturday's report ('There is a conspiracy to do us in, says MM Lee').

No government, good or bad, can satisfy people from all walks of life. Fortunately for Singapore and thanks to the government, most Singaporeans are well educated, rational and logical.

As a result, most have voted in the same Government since independence. They believe that whatever policy the government introduces is for the good of most of its people.

At times, the policy may cause short term pain, but most bear it as they believe in the Government.

This Government knows what her people want: jobs, homes, security and affordable health care.

Most are satisfied with what they need and what they have.

Like many Singaporeans born in the 1940s, I had nothing. Now, my spouse and I have a comfortable five-room flat, fully paid, plus sufficient cash to see us through the rest of our lives.

My two kids fare better. They are in their 30s, are happily married with kids, have their private properties, fully paid, plus sufficient cash to see them through on rainy days.

So long as the elected representatives of the people have knowledge, integrity and honesty, Singapore will survive, come what may.
