I WOULD like to ask the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Ministry of Transport to review the policy not to allow use of weekend cars before 3.30pm on Saturdays.
I believe this timing was set in the past when government offices were open half day on Saturdays. Since this is no longer the case, allowing people to use weekend cars full day on Saturdays, just like on Sundays, will allow families to own a weekend car and enjoy a better family life.
Many people will be tempted to convert their cars to weekend cars and take public transport. I believe most people with families use their cars for recreation and shopping during weekends. This will also reduce pollution as use will be more only on weekends.
When I called the LTA and asked the operator if she knew why this Saturday rule was so, she had no clear answer.
