AS A 61-year-old commuter who gives up his seat to more deserving passengers, it saddens me to see able-bodied young men in uniform chatting away merrily or pretending to be asleep when they are seated right in front of pregnant women, parents and grandparents with infants in their arms, the infirm or senior citizens.
Shouldn't our uniformed agencies inculcate some basic values into their members?
Why is this happening in spite of the courtesy campaigns?
I've heard tourists commenting that in their countries, their uniformed personnel are proud to stand up for their units and their nation.
What do the authorities have to say?
