125 tonnes of Qing Ming discards cleared from cemetery
I REFER to the letter, 'Cemetery's swarming worry' (April 25). We assure Mr Teo Meng Toon that cemeteries are checked regularly to remove potential mosquito-breeding habitats. To this end, the National Environment Agency (NEA) engages contractors to clean and remove unwanted items on cemetery grounds. Apart from installing more litterbins, we deploy more workers to remove and dispose of flower containers, food offerings and items left behind by visitors during Qing Ming.
As much as 125 tonnes of discarded items were removed from Choa Chu Kang Chinese Cemetery.
NEA wishes to take this opportunity to call for the cooperation of all visitors to help keep cemeteries clean and free of mosquitoes.
