The Forshaw exception
ONLINE KUDOS: SIA and spokesman Stephen Forshaw.
IN THIS age of the Internet, decision makers of government departments, statutory bodies and private corporations should not confine themselves to the usual sources for feedback on the performance of their departments and companies.

They should also source for feedback, criticism and comments concerning their departments and corporations via other channels such as Youtube and The Straits Times Discussion Board online.

After almost a year of trawling Youtube and The Straits Times Discussion Board, I have not come across any head of government department, statutory body or private corporation actively engaging critics.

The exception was Mr Stephen Forshaw, spokesman for Singapore Airlines (SIA). He countered postings in the Discussion Board by his critics point by point, regarding the incident in which an SIA stewardess was slapped by the irate spouse of a male passenger.

Once, a Discussion Board participant, upon seeing Mr Forshaw's rejoinder, was moved to note that the SIA spokesman was even working on a Sunday.

Well done, Mr Forshaw. What you have done may have saved the day for SIA.
