I REFER to Mr Francis Heng's letter last Saturday ('Malaysian trains causing noise and health problems'), which shows that, as we progress, we are less tolerant of things that were the norm during our early years.
He is correct in highlighting the noise pollution, but then he had a choice about where he wanted to live. Such noise should be expected and we cannot blame KTM Malaysia which has been there since the early days.
Of course, his complaints have some merit, but don't forget that trains starting from Singapore serve Singaporeans who would be greatly inconvenienced if the trains were removed.
Also, how do we reduce the sound level of train horns without reducing their effectiveness?
