Why bypass Singapore?

'I am very surprised that the Olympic Games torch gave Singapore a miss.'

MR KHOO LIH-HAN, who felt hosting rights to the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in 2010 are a greater reason for the torch to be in Singapore

CAN SINGAPOREANS LIVE WITH THIS?

'Limit each household to one car.'
MR RAYMOND LO, on resolving the problem of traffic congestion. He added that allowing odd- and even-numbered cars to use the roads on alternate days should be considered. He said more electronic road pricing gantries, higher charges and longer operating hours should be a last resort

GO FIGURE...

'The incongruity of posting an apology in Chinese to viewers of a wholly Tamil programme appears to have been lost on the service provider.'
MR NARAYANA NARAYANA, reacting to a breakdown on StarHub SunTV Tamil Channel 29 on Wednesday at about 1.15pm. An apology appeared in English, with Chinese characters below which he assumed were a translation

STILL WAITING

'Pulau Ubin looks more lively.'
MR ANG PENG CHWEE, a resident of Bukit Panjang, who bemoans the lack of a swimming pool and convenient transport network after almost 30 years. He says he envies other estates such as Jurong West, Clementi, Ang Mo Kio, Sembawang, Toa Payoh and Punggol, which have become more vibrant or have lively developments planned

MASK AID

'Station a nurse in the polyclinic waiting room to distribute masks to those who have symptoms of cold or flu.'
MR ROBERTO PREGARZ, noting that people visit polyclinics for various reasons, but these are the very places where they can catch flu from others

WRONG TIME, WRONG PLACE

'Why are such events permitted during peak hours and in the congested business district?'
MR HENRY CHAN, who is puzzled as to why the authorities allow corporate or charity events to be held at the Marina area where he works. While he concedes that the event may be for a good cause, he feels that the timing and venue could be better. 'Why can't these events be held on weekends or in less congested areas like Marina South?' he asks

INSPECTION SO SOON?

'Surely, a one-year-old vehicle cannot deteriorate so rapidly.'
MR DAVID CHIA, who bought a new Renault commercial vehicle for company use and received an advice from the Land Transport Authority a year later to carry out a compulsory inspection before renewing its road tax
