Strict hiring criteria for airport screeners
I REFER to Tuesday's letter by Mr Tan Soon Hock, 'Airport security too vital to leave to casual labour' and wish to assure Mr Tan that security screeners are recruited according to strict criteria.

Successful candidates are placed on a comprehensive training programme followed by a stringent certification process.

They also undergo on-the-job training before they can be deployed to perform security screening duties. A robust framework, involving a certification process, frequent audits and inspections, is also conducted on screeners when they carry out their duties. This is to ensure that the necessary screening standards and effectiveness are continuously met.

We appreciate Mr Tan's feedback and would like to assure him the Singapore Police Force treats aviation security with the utmost importance.
