St James removes 'drink and drive' posters
WE REFER to Monday's letter, 'Nightspot's posters send wrong signals' by Mr Adrian Yap, which relates to posters found in Dragonfly at St James Power Station with the tagline 'Please drink and drive... away an Opel Astra Twintop'.

The posters are part of the publicity campaign for St James Power Station's grand opening lucky draws. This is the third car that we are giving away since we opened officially over a year ago.

The publicity campaign for the third draw was designed as a light-hearted yet eye-catching approach and included a variety of in-house collaterals such as posters, badges, floor stickers, video projections, and tent cards displayed throughout the various outlets in St James. There was also a prominent display of the car in front of the building.

Taking these into consideration, we did not feel the tagline could mislead to the point that St James is promoting driving after drinking. The taglines were not advertised in the media or promoted beyond our premises.

St James Power Station has worked closely with the Traffic Police in promoting the anti-drink driving message, having introduced several measures to encourage patrons not to drink and drive.

These include a drive home valet service, a free breathalyser service, free parking from 6am to 3pm for those who wish to leave their cars behind, and most recently, the 'go public'' taxi voucher scheme.

We acknowledge that the tagline could possibly be misleading to some patrons. To avoid further controversy, we have removed the mentioned collaterals.
