I HAVE noticed posters in the men's toilet of the Dragonfly club at St James Power Station with the words: 'PLEASE DRINK AND DRIVE... away an Opel Astra Twintop'. The left bottom corner shows St James' name.
These posters were also found in two other men's toilets at St James' Bellini Room and Mono outlets.
While I understand that this is a tongue-in-cheek message meant for a lucky draw advertisement, it is still not appropriate for one of the biggest nightspots in Singapore to send such a confusing signal.
Placing such posters in the toilets, where drunk patrons could view them, may result in some of them reading only the big bold words, and getting the wrong message.
In fact, St James should not even have a car as the prize of the lucky draw, because it is sending out the wrong signal.
I am aware that St James is a staunch supporter of the Traffic Police's anti-drink driving campaign. The nightspot's efforts to combat drink driving - such as the use of breathalysers and its drive-home valet service - are laudable. But I appeal to its management to be more careful in the messages it sends out to patrons.
