No choice but to buy new cars
I REFER to the article 'Scrap your car... get hard cash in return'' (March 30).

To further encourage motorists to give up their cars, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) may like to look into allowing bidders for private car registration numbers to retain the numbers indefinitely, as opposed to the current one-year period.

After one year, the retained number has to be used to register a new car. Hence, motorists have no choice but to buy new cars to enjoy the scrap rebates and retain the use of private bidded numbers. This defeats the LTA's push to encourage motorists to give up their cars and take public transport.
